Where do clouds fly?
How does the wind blow?
I’m by the spot, do you remember?
Next to the waves, we said,
they were trying to drown us,
but not today. Do you remember?
I walked miles and got high,
listening to that song you shared
on repeat, repeat, repeat those words
you told me. Do you remember?
You said, I never felt like anyone
but last. I’m short; I'm so, so small.
Did you know? Where do birds fly?
Where do people go? That day
they left us last spring, that day
we felt the Earth breath, that day
the sun fucked the grass, so green.
You told me we’re just one species.
Remember? We are just the trees,
and water, and the rocks we skipped
along the beach, feeling the wind seethe.
Will you remember me? Do you know
I love you?

You are not the last. The forgotten faded branch,
the one we held between our palms,
to walk along the path, we saw those kids
and knew there was more to life than this.
You said to me, remember, you said
they’ll have a better day than us,
and we’re trying so hard.
No matter how deep we feel,
those three will get more than us,
but do you know
I love you?

And that wasn’t true.
There was a fourth who followed.
Behind, he ran, struggling past
the trees. As he watched us watch him
and you looked down at your feet and
you said to me, remember, you said
nothing. Do you remember?
I offered my hand but you don’t touch
and we went here, on this rock,
by the beach, like you told me.
I’m high and alone and it hurts,
feeling this small. People walk by
and I’m behind them, thinking
Why do the clouds fly?
Where does the wind blow?
How do birds fly?

Why do people go?
I love you, you know. Remember?
Nothing, nevermind.
